Devin was a rescue from Sacramento, California — found wandering the streets alone. When animal control approached him, they remembered how he immediately rolled onto his side, lifting his badly broken leg into the air as if surrendering and asking for help. He was taken to the local shelter, and Woof Rescue Project was contacted right away. Initial exams suggested his leg would need to be amputated. But fate stepped in. At the time, Dr. Marcia “Marci” H. McKenzie, DVM in South Lake Tahoe was performing advanced orthopedic procedures on working dogs. Instead of removing Devin’s leg, she rebuilt it — replacing part of the bone with a titanium rod and saving the limb entirely. Devin became, quite literally, the bionic dog. Today, Devin is 10 years old and thriving. In 2025, he survived a major emergency surgery for bloat — a life-threatening condition where the stomach twists. He pulled through once again, proving he might just have nine lives. We love him deeply. He also adopted Josie as his sister, and together they found their forever home with Robert and Jamie, the forever parents of Josie. A rescue. A survivor. A miracle. Devin’s story is one of courage, resilience, and love.
